“When Nana’s Restart steps into a child’s life or a parent’s life, or the life of anyone in need, I want them to know that I feel their pain because I was there.”
Mama Joy - Founder & CEO of Nana’s Restart
Anitrice Jackson, better known as “Mama Joy,” started Nana’s Restart in 2013 as a way to serve her community of Overtown, Miami. Since then, she has been doing this work on her own time and dime… because her passion and purpose is people.
When her now-adult children were young, Mama Joy was having trouble paying for school clothes and supplies for them. An angel must have heard her prayers because, all of a sudden, the Salvation Army’s Angel Tree started sending her family the resources they needed, and even everything on her kids’ Christmas wish list. In that moment, Mama Joy knew that her calling was to be an angel in other people’s lives too.

Mama Joy is the 2022 Community Catalyst Award recipient!
